This deliciously moist cake is the perfect addition to your childs lunchbox, or an after school treat.

what you need

1 cup water
1 ¼ cups caster sugar
125g butter
½ cup CADBURY Bournville Cocoa
½ teaspoon bicarbonate soda
1¼ cups self raising flour
2 eggs, lightly beaten

1 cup icing mixture
⅓ cup of CADBURY Bournville Cocoa
30g butter, softened
Hot water

make it

1. COMBINE water, sugar, butter, Cocoa and bicarbonate soda in a saucepan and warm, but do not boil, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Then bring to the boil and simmer gently for 2 minutes. Transfer mixture to a bowl and cool for 30 minutes.
2. ADD the flour and eggs and beat until just combined. Pour into a greased and base-lined 20cm cake pan. Bake in a moderate oven 180°C for 40 minutes or until cooked. Cool for 10 minutes before turning onto a wire rack to cool completely.
3. SIFT together the icing mixture and Cocoa. Mix in the butter and enough hot water to form a soft icing. Spread over the cooled cake and decorate as desired.

January 1, 2014 – So easy to make and absolutely delicious. Reduced sugar to only 1 cup, baked in a loaf tin and I iced with chocolate buttercream. The husband and kids nearly ate the whole thing for afternoon tea! Will be making again

November 11, 2013 – Cadbury this recipe is missing the best part - ganache icing made by melting a family block of CADBURY chocolate and mixing with a carton of sour cream - delicious topping for fabulous cake!!!
btw yogurt can be substituted for sour cream

October 10, 2013 – This recipe is awesome and turns out really moist every time. The method is simple and uses minimal ingredients that are available in the home. It is a hit everywhere I take it! I usually add chocolate and a bit of milk or cream to the icing recipe to make it a 'ganache' and this seems to work well with the cake too. Thank you for the recipe!

September 9, 2013 – Very easy with nice results. I baked them at 160 degrees in a fan forced oven and made cupcakes out of them, so baking time was about 20-25 minutes.

March 3, 2013 – By far the easiest and best chocolate cake recipe ever! Most good chocolate cakes require the addition of cream, sour cream and chocolate to boost the flavour - not this one. The ingredients for this cake everyone has in their pantry. This is a never fail recipe. I took it too work and it was a hit. it worked out exactly as described and yes it is moist. I can now stop looking for chocolate cake recipes, this is it for me.

December 12, 2011 – This is the best ever chocolate cake recipe, I have made it for many years featuring at every family celebration, every birthday and 18 th, 21st, Engagement - always moist - I use a ganache (chocolate/cream) for the icing. I have also made double the mix into a lamington tin (twice) and put chocolate mousse (with extra gelatine to set) in the middle. A fail proof recipe!
